Urban Digital Color is pleased to announce a
dedicated system designed exclusively for archival quality black and white
printing. The ink is a carbon-based pigment that is receiving truly archival
longevity ratings. The carbon pigments have been engineered to far exceed
the standards by which the industry tests fade rates. RIT and Wilhelm tests
permit up to 30% fade to arrive at 100 years longevity. In the same equivalent
time tests, twice as much illumination was used and set our standards at only
5% fade.
Two baseline toning options are available. One, a selenium tone, is similar
to short-bath selenium toning. It is often described as coming very close
to the look of Selenium toned Ilford Galerie. The other is a pure carbon pigment
sepia tone. This inkset has the warm, slightly brown undertone of carbon,
which has been used in traditional photographic process for centuries.
The profiles used for each inkset produce a linearization from dMin to dMax
which is greater than can be obtained with traditional darkroom paper. We
can achieve a subtle tonality from sepia to cool neutral with ultra-fine detail
on a large array of archival fine-art papers, canvas, and fabric up to 60
inches wide x 100 feet long.
