and are pleased to announce the publication
of a new series of artist books, ,
conceived to promote West Coast idea based artists. The books are not catalogues
or surveys, but single bodies of work that take shape in the pages of the
book, rather than in the gallery space. Through a curatorial process, two
West Coast artists will be invited to participate and be published each year.
The artists will be offered the opportunity to realize their ideas in the
form of a hardbound project room, fully funded by The Expanding Color System.
Having seen a lack of philanthropic effort placed on the West Coast art community,
especially within the conceptual disciplines, this series endeavors to illuminate
the challenging work of the region as well as provide a platform for this
work throughout the country. This unique philanthropic venture also looks
to incite and inspire young artists to continue their work, provide a tool
for artists to communicate their idea-based work to a larger community, and
foster a network for continued collaboration.
Each book's exterior incorporates a unique color on the cover and spine. When
the series is assembled as a collection, it is meant to form a color spectrum,
reflecting a series of diverse concepts.
We are inviting selected galleries, based on the strength of their program
in supporting conceptual artists, to submit proposals for the next series
of books. The emphasis is on artists who are working in an idea-based and
conceptual format, the nature of whose work may be well suited and ultimately
strengthened by the book form.
